Wood Engraving, engraved circa 1930

Thomas Bewick (1753-1828)

Inscription: 'Printed from the original wood engraving by Thomas Bewick (3370/6 Bewick Collector)' 180 x 114 mm.
Mounted on card in original frame, dated: 1950
The original frame is kept for authenticity but is showing its age. The print would benefit from re-mounting and re-framing. This engraving is from the eighth edition (1824) of Thomas Bewick's first major independent publication, 'A General History of Quadrupeds', that was first printed and published in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1790. This print is taken from the original end-grain boxwood block engraved by Thomas Bewick. It has been owned by James Bostock for many years as a powerful example of the use of this medium, and no doubt also a source of inspiration.
Price: £340 including postage and packing. UK delivery only.
